The Census and Statistics Department released the results of the monthly survey on the business conditions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for February, showing that the current business revenue trend index for SMEs rose from 43.4 in January, which is in the contraction zone, to 45.3 in February, while the business revenue outlook trend index for the next month (i.e., March) is 47.6.

By industry analysis, the current business revenue trend index for all industries covered by the survey increased month-on-month in February, particularly in the retail, food and beverage, and import-export trade sectors. The current trend index for new orders in the import-export trade sector rose from 46 in January to 47.1 in February, while the outlook trend index for new orders for the next month is 47.9.

A government spokesperson stated that the business atmosphere for SMEs improved in February, with both the current and outlook trend indices for business revenue reaching their highest levels in nearly two years. The current trend index for SME employment also improved month-on-month.

Looking ahead, the local business atmosphere is expected to be supported by the continued expansion of the economy. The government will closely monitor the evolution of the external environment, including the escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the fluctuating trade policies of major economies
