Former Minister of Industry and Information Technology Miao Wei: Improve the social security network under new employment forms, implement and optimize the vacation system, and ensure that the benefits of artificial intelligence development are shared by the entire society

Miao Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee, and former Minister of Industry and Information Technology, published a signed article in the People's Daily stating that it is important to correctly understand the impact of artificial intelligence on employment. Currently, there is much discussion about artificial intelligence replacing human jobs; in fact, the large-scale replacement of jobs due to automation has not yet arrived. The jobs that are being replaced by intelligent tools are repetitive and procedural work segments, which can free workers from these tasks and create new job demands, such as algorithm trainers and intelligent scene designers. Furthermore, after artificial intelligence significantly boosts labor productivity, humans can enjoy more leisure time. At present, efforts should be increased to "invest in people," conduct specialized training to enhance skills in artificial intelligence technology, and help workers transition to new roles in human-machine collaboration; improve the labor rights protection level for new employment forms, enhance the social security network under new employment forms, and implement and optimize vacation systems so that the dividends of artificial intelligence development can be shared by the entire society
