Report: U.S. regulators plan to relax some capital requirement proposals for Wall Street banks
U.S. regulators are set to propose a package of new capital requirements aimed at encouraging some Wall Street banks and their mid-sized competitors to expand credit offerings.
According to informed sources, officials from the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) are expected to unveil related proposals as early as next week. The plan will include three key capital-related measures, one of which is a revised version of the significant U.S. bank capital proposal "Basel III." The Federal Reserve is also preparing to adjust the additional capital requirements for U.S. Global Systemically Important Banks (G-SIBs) to link them to changes in nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
