According to Xinhua News Agency, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on the 17th that an oil tanker anchored in the Gulf of Oman was attacked by an unidentified projectile, resulting in minor structural damage with no injuries reported. The office stated in a release that the incident occurred 23 nautical miles (approximately 42.6 kilometers) east of Fujairah, UAE, with no reports of environmental pollution.
Shipping agents indicated that the UAE oil and gas hub Fujairah has suspended oil loading. The incident occurred near the Port of Fujairah, which is an important alternative export route for the Strait of Hormuz.
According to ZeroHedge, citing data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), there have been no confirmed tanker attacks in the region for quite some time since March 11.

On March 11, the UKMTO reported that three cargo ships were attacked by suspected projectiles near the Iranian coast. One vessel reported being hit and catching fire 11 nautical miles north of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing the crew to evacuate; another vessel was struck about 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai, and a third was damaged near the UAE coast. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps subsequently confirmed that it fired upon a Thai-flagged container ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, with photos showing the ship engulfed in smoke.
Torbjorn Soltvedt, chief analyst for the Middle East at risk intelligence firm Verisk Maplecroft, noted in a report on March 11 that &#34;Iran's rapid and large-scale retaliation against shipping and regional energy, port, and economic infrastructure has severed a vital artery of the global supply chain, with the flow of oil, refined products, liquefied natural gas, and chemicals nearly coming to a halt.&#34;

According to previous reports from Wall Street Watch, the scope of attacks on energy facilities in the Persian Gulf has now extended to the production end for the first time in this round of conflicts
The UAE's Shah gas field and Iraq's Majnoon oil field have been attacked in succession. Analysts point out that the previously targeted sites were mainly refineries, docks, and oil storage facilities, and this marks the first time that oil and gas production facilities have become targets, indicating an escalation in the threat to the energy supply chain due to the conflict.
Fujairah Port, which serves as an alternative export route to the Strait of Hormuz, has also been attacked previously, and the location of the recent tanker attack is similarly in the waters near Fujairah, showing that the security of this alternative route is also facing severe challenges.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow maritime corridor connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas is typically transported. Since the outbreak of the conflict, shipping traffic in this waterway has significantly decreased.
