The Beidu University Town Preparatory Group visits Zhejiang to investigate the development model and practical experience of local university towns
The Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-kee, led a delegation from the "University Town Planning and Construction Group" under the "Northern Metropolis Development Committee" to Ningbo for a four-day visit to Zhejiang, Beijing, and the Xiong'an New Area in Hebei. The purpose of the visit was to investigate the development models and practical experiences of local university towns, serving as a policy reference for the planning and construction of the Northern Metropolis University Town.
Chan Kwok-kee stated that the Chief Executive announced the establishment of a research task force by the preparatory group in the 2025 Policy Address to study the development model of the Northern Metropolis University Town. He hopes that through this trip, by observing the successful experiences of the Ningbo Higher Education Park over the past twenty years, they can understand how different institutions leverage government policy support and the aggregation of resources in the park to better promote the integration of industry, academia, and research. At the same time, this visit aims to enhance exchanges and cooperation in the education sector between the two regions.
Afterward, Chan Kwok-kee and the delegation moved to Hangzhou to meet with Xu Wenguang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, along with other officials from Zhejiang Province, to exchange views on further deepening cooperation between Zhejiang and Hong Kong, particularly in strengthening exchanges and cooperation with mainland institutions in the education sector. Chan Kwok-kee, Secretary for Education, Choi Yuk-lin, and other delegation members will continue their visit today (31st) to investigate the Hangzhou Xiasha Higher Education Park
