Image credit: Volkswagen Ahui)</figcaption></figure><p>Volkswagen is breaking down the sales barriers between its Chinese joint ventures for the first time, as select FAW-Volkswagen stores will begin selling pure electric vehicles from Volkswagen Anhui.</p><p>The two Volkswagen joint ventures officially signed a strategic memorandum of understanding for dealer network cooperation on Thursday, planning to display and sell Volkswagen Anhui's latest EV models through a &#34;store-in-store&#34; format.</p><p>The first model to emerge from this partnership is the ID. Authorized FAW-Volkswagen dealers will set up dedicated teams to handle sales, according to an announcement by Volkswagen Anhui.</p><p>As of now, Volkswagen Anhui operates about 140 sales outlets, with a target to expand to 200 by the end of the year.</p><p>For a long time, Volkswagen's joint ventures in China have fought their own battles on the sales front, maintaining completely independent brand operations, inventory management, and retail incentive mechanisms.</p><p>With multiple strategic EV products slated for intensive roll-out this year, Volkswagen Anhui is attempting to quickly overcome the challenges of its narrow channel coverage and lack of presence in lower-tier markets.</p><p>FAW-Volkswagen boasts a mature network of nearly 1,000 dealers and high city coverage, which is expected to provide more frequent test-drive touchpoints for Volkswagen Anhui's new vehicles.</p><p>This cross-venture resource mobilization signifies a loosening of the fragmented barriers within the Volkswagen China system.</p><p>The ID. UNYX 08 began pre-sales on March 26 with a starting price of 239,900 yuan ($34,720), and is expected to officially hit the market in the first half of the year.</p><p>The vehicle is equipped with two Turing smart driving chips provided by Xpeng, and features Xpeng's VLA 2.0 smart driving solution.</p><p>The ID. UNYX 08 marks the first technological collaboration outcome between Volkswagen and its local partner Xpeng. The project took just 24 months from the signing of the joint development technology agreement to achieving mass production.</p><p>Volkswagen Anhui is a joint venture established in 2017 between Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).
