Mainland China launches its first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement technology demonstration application project
CNOOC announced that the Dongfang 1-1 gas field carbon dioxide capture, storage, and utilization project has commenced construction in Hainan. As the first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement technology demonstration application project in mainland China, the project is expected to store more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide in the strata annually after full production.
Richard Yu, the project leader of the Dongfang 1-1 gas field carbon dioxide capture, storage, and utilization project at CNOOC Hainan Company, stated that relying on the new project, CNOOC will move the decarbonization process originally deployed at land processing plants to the platform, achieving "source carbon reduction" in offshore natural gas extraction.
It is reported that after the project is completed, it will be fully integrated with the existing production facilities of the Dongfang 1-1 gas field, enhancing the pipeline transportation capacity of the existing subsea pipeline network in the Yinggehai sea area, creating favorable conditions for the economic development of more carbon-rich natural gas resources in the region, and is expected to promote the Dongfang gas field group to achieve long-term stable production
