In the first two months, the overall export volume of goods from Hong Kong increased by 25%, while the import volume rose by 29.1%

Following the earlier release of the value statistics for external merchandise trade in February this year, the Census and Statistics Department today (16th) published the volume and price statistics for external merchandise trade for that month.

Due to the impact of the Lunar New Year holiday occurring on different dates, it is more appropriate to combine the trade statistics for January and February for year-on-year comparisons.

In the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year, Hong Kong's overall merchandise export volume and import volume increased by 25% and 29.1%, respectively.

In February this year compared to February last year, Hong Kong's overall merchandise export volume and import volume increased by 19.5% and 23.9%, respectively.

In the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year, the overall export prices and import prices increased by 3.6% and 3.7%, respectively.

The trade price ratio index is calculated based on the ratio of the overall export price index to the import price index. Compared to the same period last year, this index fell by 0.1% in February this year, while it remained relatively unchanged in the first two months of this year.

In February this year compared to February last year, the overall export volume to all major destinations recorded increases: United States (36.2%), Taiwan (26.3%), Mainland China (16.1%), Vietnam (15.9%), and India (14.8%).

At the same time, the overall export prices to all major destinations increased: Taiwan (5.6%), Mainland China (4.8%), India (4.6%), United States (2.9%), and Vietnam (2.4%).

In February this year compared to February last year, the import volume from all major supply sources recorded increases: South Korea (90.5%), Vietnam (63.0%), Mainland China (23.1%), Singapore (14.9%), and Taiwan (2.8%).

At the same time, the import prices from all major supply sources increased: South Korea (9.7%), Taiwan (6.4%), Mainland China (4.1%), Vietnam (2.7%), and Singapore (1.6%)
