According to reports cited by the Financial Times, Jardine Matheson is in discussions with CK Hutchison Holdings (0001) to acquire its supermarket business unit, ParknShop, and merge it with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Wellcome, under DFI Retail Group.
This rumored acquisition and merger case is expected to involve a substantial amount of capital. In recent years, Jardine Matheson has also frequently sold off several valuable properties in Hong Kong, realizing nearly HKD 20 billion. Among these, the largest transaction involved the sale of the 13th floor of the Island One Center in Causeway Bay by Mandarin Oriental International Group, a subsidiary of Jardine Matheson, for HKD 7.2 billion to Alibaba (09988) and Ant Group.
According to records, Jardine Matheson and its related companies have frequently sold valuable properties in recent years. In October 2025, Mandarin Oriental International Group, part of Jardine Matheson, finalized the sale of the highest 13th floor of the Island One Center in Causeway Bay (formerly the Hong Kong East Hotel) for HKD 7.2 billion, involving a floor area of approximately 300,000 square feet. The new buyers are Alibaba (09988) and Ant Group.
In April 2025, a property company under Jardine Matheson sold the 9th floor of the Central Trading Plaza Phase 1 for HKD 6.3 billion, with the new buyer being the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (0388). Looking back to 2021, Jardine Matheson sold a mixed-use parking building and warehouse in Chai Wan and Hung Hom to Link REIT (0823) for HKD 5.82 billion.
This year, Jardine Matheson has also engaged in sales activities. In March, it was rumored that Jardine Matheson sold the parking lot of the Caprice Building at 36 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, for HKD 130 million, involving 172 parking spaces.
This month, Jardine Matheson commissioned agents to list two properties, including a ground floor shop of over 10,000 square feet at the Caprice Building in Causeway Bay and a 28,000 square foot car repair workshop on the first floor of the Kwai Chung and Yi Shopping Mall, each valued at HKD 90 million, totaling HKD 180 million.
