BYD's (HKEX: 1211) personalized brand Fang Cheng Bao said Tuesday that its full-size SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Tai 9, will make its global debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show.

The 29th Chengdu International Automobile Exhibition will be held from August 21 to 30 at Western China Expo City, marking China's first A-class Auto Show in the second half of the year.

BYD will have a dedicated group pavilion in Hall 9, where the Dynasty lineup's first D-segment flagship sedan, the Da Han, will also make its global debut on media day.

The Tai 9 is a 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that entered a regulatory filing catalog of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) earlier this month.

The vehicle measures 5,270 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,880 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. Its height is reduced to 1,850 mm when configured without roof rails.

That makes the Tai 9 Fang Cheng Bao's largest SUV, surpassing the Bao 8 off-road SUV, which measures 5,195 mm in length.

The new model is powered by a 1.5-liter engine and has front and rear electric motors, each with peak power of 200 kW, forming an all-wheel-drive system.

It uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a capacity of 66.48 kWh, delivering a battery-only range of 310 kilometers and a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour.

Badging on the rear shows that the Tai 9 will use BYD's new DMS platform. No further information about the platform is currently available.

Fang Cheng Bao released the first teaser video for the Tai 9 on August 2. Xiong Tianbo, general manager of the business unit, said on Weibo at the time that the wait won't be long.

The Tai 9 will fill a gap in Fang Cheng Bao's full-size SUV lineup. The Bao 5 and Bao 8 are aimed at hardcore off-roading, while the Tai 3 and Tai 7 focus more on urban and family use.

BYD launched Fang Cheng Bao in August 2023, positioning it between the mass-market Dynasty and Ocean lineups and the ultra-luxury Yangwang brand.

The brand said on August 5 that cumulative sales had surpassed 500,000 units in less than 3 years, with an average transaction price exceeding 223,000 yuan ($32,840).

Fang Cheng Bao sold 41,213 vehicles in July, up 190.6% year-on-year. Deliveries totaled 200,687 units in the first 7 months of the year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Tai 7 is currently the brand's best-selling model, with 27,320 units delivered in July. Its cumulative sales have surpassed 210,000 units about 11 months after launch.
