BYD debuted the third-generation Tang SUV at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, with sales launching in Q4. This five-seat mid-to-large flagship features up to 850 km CLTC range and rapid charging via second-gen Blade Battery. It joins the Da Tang to form a dual-flagship lineup, aiming to revitalize falling Tang series sales. The model includes DiSus-A suspension and God's Eye B driver-assistance.

  • The five-seat SUV will form a dual-flagship SUV lineup with the full-size Da Tang, as BYD seeks to revitalize the Tang series amid falling sales.
  • The third-generation Tang offers up to 850 km of all-electric range and can charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) debuted the third-generation Tang SUV (sport utility vehicle) at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opened on Friday, advancing the overhaul of one of its most important models.

Positioned as an 8-series flagship in BYD's Dynasty lineup, the five-seat mid-to-large SUV is set to go on sale in the fourth quarter.

The third-generation Tang will join the 9-series Da Tang, which went on sale in June, to form a dual-flagship SUV lineup for the Dynasty lineup.

The third-generation Tang measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.

The model uses BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, with battery pack options of 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh. It offers CLTC all-electric ranges of 730 km, 830 km and 850 km, depending on the configuration.

At normal temperatures, the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes and reach 97% in 9 minutes. In extremely cold conditions, charging takes about 3 minutes longer.

A version previously filed with Chinese regulators featured a single electric motor with peak output of 300 kW (402 hp) and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Like the Da Tang, the third-generation Tang is equipped with BYD's DiSus-A intelligent air suspension body control system, including dual-chamber air suspension and an intelligent road-preview function.

All variants come standard with the God's Eye B driver-assistance system, featuring 1 LiDAR and supporting navigation-assisted driving on urban roads and highways, as well as automated parking.

Refreshing the Tang family is critical for BYD. Sales of the series have fallen sharply during a year without a major redesign.

BYD has accelerated efforts since last year to reshape the flagship nameplate. The Da Tang EV went on sale on June 17 with a starting price of 239,900 yuan ($35,370) and a CLTC range of up to 950 km. Deliveries surpassed 10,000 units about 1 month after launch.

BYD also unveiled the Da Han EV at the Chengdu Auto Show today and opened pre-sales for the model. The Dynasty 9-series flagship sedan offers a range of up to 1,008 km.

The 29th Chengdu International Motor Show runs from August 21 to 30, with BYD occupying a dedicated group pavilion in Hall 9.
