Sumitomo Corporation Launches Major Biomass Power Plant in Sendai
Sumitomo Corporation has started commercial operations at the Sendai Port Biomass Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture, developed with Tokyo Gas, Hokuriku Electric Power, and Sumitomo Corporation Tohoku. The plant has an output of 112 MW, generating 800,000 MWh annually, enough for 260,000 households. It uses wood-based biomass fuels from certified forests, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050. Fuel procurement ensures traceability and proper forest resource utilization.
