(🏆 Buy Low, Sell High ): How Alibaba’s US$45B Capital Play is Funding the AI Revolution

Did you know Alibaba just pulled off a huge shift in its capital plan?

Since 2022, it went on a massive buying spree, spending US$45.8 billion to retire roughly 4 billion shares. That shrank total shares down to a low of 18.47 billion by March 2025.

But the AI Pivot changes everything now. To fund global AI infrastructure and its “Agentic Cloud” upgrade, Alibaba issued 710 million new shares, raising US$10.2 billion.
