Why Tesla Slid Post-Market Despite Record Revenue ?🤔
Tesla’s Q2 2026 results tell a clear story. Top-line growth hit with new highs but profits and cash flow disappointed, sending the stock down ~4% in extended trading.
Vehicle deliveries topped 480,000 units, pushing revenue up 26% YoY to $28.24 billion. However, the Wall Street focusing entirely on the weaker earnings and heavy spending.
📉 What Triggered The Drop?
1️⃣ Big EPS Miss: Adjusted EPS came in at $0.33, well below the $0.49–$0.53 markets were expecting
2️⃣ Margins Collapsed: Operating margin fell sharply to just 1.4%, as operating expenses jumped 47% to $4.35 billion
3️⃣ Cash Flow Turned Negative: Free cash flow swung to -$1.09 billion, with capital expenditure more than doubling to $5.79 billion
4️⃣ Big Spending Ahead: Full-year capex is set to exceed $25 billion to fund AI computing, robotaxis and Optimus robots now.
In short :
Tesla is sacrificing short‑term car profits to build its AI future. As long as these heavy investments have not turned into high‑margin software income, margin pressure will keep weighing on the stock.
