30-year yields are spiking！VIX Settlement + OPEX Set the Stage for Volatility.

The 30-year Treasury yield briefly surged to 5.34% overnight, its highest level since 2007, as a wave of investment-grade bond issuance from tech giants to fund AI infrastructure absorbed liquidity.

The move has pushed up real-economy borrowing costs and is forcing a reassessment of aggressive capital expenditure plans across the AI hardware chain.

Key Developments:

Tech megacaps—including$NVIDIA(NVDA.US)  $Alphabet(GOOGL.US)  $Meta Platforms(META.US) $Amazon(AMZN.US)  and $Microsoft(MSFT.US) —are tapping the long-end of the corporate bond market to finance AI infrastructure, effectively competing with the U.S. government for capital. 

The resulting supply-demand imbalance has driven long-term risk-free rates higher, weighing on growth stock valuations as future cash flows are discounted more heavily.

Tonight’s 20-year Treasury auction, August VIX options expiration, and the release of the FOMC minutes will provide the next test for markets. 

While the VIX remains subdued near 15.75—well below the 20-level that typically signals market stress—the bond market is signaling a different story.
