India rolled out ‘Semicon 2.0’, the 2nd tranche of government funds aimed at building out its semiconductor industry, ₹1.275 trillion rupees (US$13.4 billion) aimed at chip design and manufacturing, media report. The figure is far higher than India’s first tranche of chip investment, ₹760 billion rupees, launched in December 2021. The first phase aimed at silicon chip fabs, compound semiconductor fabs, packaging and testing plants and chip design.
