SGX Cuts the Board Lot for DBS, OCBC and UOB From 100 Shares to 10 Today

The Numbers
From today, SGX board lots fall from 100 units to 10 for 11 counters, including DBS, OCBC and UOB, per SGX and Beansprout. At Friday's closes (DBS S$77.21, UOB S$43.11, OCBC S$31.66), one lot costs about S$772, S$431 and S$317, against about S$7,721, S$4,311 and S$3,166 before. SGX opens at 9am. The STI closed Friday at 5,634.82 (-0.6%) and ended September 1.4% lower, with five constituents positive for the month, per Beansprout.
On Wall Street Friday, the Dow closed at 51,176.96 (+0.49%), the S&P 500 at 7,722.72 (+0.73%) and the Nasdaq at 27,190.86 (+1.19%). AP attributes the rally to the September jobs report, with payrolls up 29,000, below expectations, and unemployment at 4.2%, which curbed expectations of Fed rate hikes and pushed Treasury yields lower. Brent was US$102.25 (-0.06%) per EnergyNow, which links the flat finish to the G7's 100 million barrel reserve release. USD/SGD is 1.2793.
BT reports CDL's Lucerne Grand sold 350 of 570 units (61%) at an average S$2,480 psf over its launch weekend.
My Personal Take
Yesterday I measured DBS, UOB and OCBC as 14%, 27% and 67% away from my 4.7% hurdle. It took me a moment to see that the lot change moves none of those numbers. It cuts the cash for one lot to a tenth, while the yield is the same payment over the same price. Saturday I said a Monday SGS print would show whether Singapore follows the US move down. I do not have one at this hour. I will watch turnover in the 11 counters over the first weeks, and one day of volume would not settle it. 🦖
