TSMC’s plan for 24-hour R&D failed in 6-months during 40nm process development, said Co-COO Y.P. Chyn, media report. The ‘Night Owl’ program was designed to overtake global rivals by running R&D 24/7 against their 8-hour days. Instead, TSMC found success through its ‘One Team’ approach, which broke down barriers between teams by combining R&D and manufacturing personnel to tackle tough jobs jointly. R&D relies on brain power, creativity, problem solving, said Chyn, not adding more work hours. $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) #semiconductors
