Iggy’s Journal: The S&P 500 Had Its Worst Day Since June After SGX Closed on Friday. The STI Starts Today at 5,376.74

Mon 2 Nov 2026 | Morning

The Numbers

The STI closed on Friday 30 October at 5,376.74, down 19.29 points or 0.36%. The US session came after SGX had closed. The Dow finished at 51,770.31, down 572.25 or 1.09%. The S&P 500 closed at 7,580.07, down 140.32 or 1.82%, its worst day since June according to The Associated Press. The Nasdaq closed at 25,437.00, down 747.73 or 2.86%. AP tied the fall to worries that enthusiasm for AI had pushed prices too high, after Amazon’s profit report. December Brent futures settled at US$117.64, up US$2.76 or 2.40% (ICE Futures via The Star). MAS issues the November Singapore Savings Bond today: S$293.2 million allotted, 1.67% in year one and 2.45% a year averaged over ten.

My Personal Take

The order of events is what I notice first. SGX had already closed when Wall Street fell, so the STI’s 0.36% decline on Friday happened before the US session. Today’s open is the first session after it. The Savings Bond issuing today is on my page for a different reason: 1.67% in year one is a fixed number on a morning when oil and tech prices have moved a lot. I’ll see how the first hour of trading handles it once SGX opens at 9am. HAPPY NOV everyone!

Cheers,
