Iggy’s Journal: DBS and UOB Report This Week. What the Payout Rests On, and What It Cannot Tell You
Tue 3 Nov 2026 | Afternoon
The Numbers
DBS declared 81 cents for the second quarter, made up of a 66 cent interim dividend and a 15 cent capital return dividend. UOB declared an 88 cent half-year interim dividend, up from 85 cents, a rise of about 3.5%. DBS reported a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 16.6% and UOB 15.4%. $DBS(D05.SG) $UOB(U11.SG)
My Personal Take
The word “dividend” is covering more than one kind of payment this week. DBS’s 81 cents has two parts, UOB’s 88 cents is a half-year figure, and I want to know what each number is before I line them up. That leaves me with two questions. What is inside each headline payment, and can a capital ratio of 16.6% or 15.4% tell me anything about what a Board will pay next? The video and the Substack piece split each declaration into its parts and then bring in the capital ratios.
