The United States EV market is an … interesting market. It is so much less diverse than the Chinese or European EV market, but it has gotten far more models in the past few years. That said, Tesla still dominates the market. It’s such a given that the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 will dominate the market quarter after quarter that I think most of us just skip past them now to see how the other models are doing.
Well, let’s give credit to Tesla for topping the charts again, but then let’s jump right into the rest of the models and see where they fell in Q2 2026. And then let’s take a look at how sales of various models changed year over year last quarter. (Note that static versions of the charts embedded in the article are provided on the bottom of the article as well.)
So, behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 took home the bronze and was the only other model to get more than 10,000 sales in the quarter. I know it may sound like a joke, but it’s actually noteworthy that the model is now getting nearly one-third as many sales as the Tesla Model 3. That’s interesting…. The Toyota BZ (previously called the Toyota BZ4X) then got 4th! Wowza. Right behind it in 5th is the Ford Mustang Mach-E, still going strong after all these years.
The Chevy Equinox EV, Rivian R1S, and Honda Prologue are the only other models to break 5,000 sales in the quarter, and if I’m being honest, I don’t really feel like it’s worth giving an extra mention to any models getting fewer than that many sales in a quarter.
On to changes in model sales year over year.
As we can see here, the Toyota BZ and its young new sibling the Toyota C-HR topped the charts (the latter was growing from 0 the year before though, of course, but the former has been on the market for a while and grew significantly from its 3,639 sales in Q2 2025).
Then you’ve got the Chevy Bolt, the Kia EV9, and two new EV models from Subaru — the Uncharted and the Trailseeker.
On the bottom of the chart, my oh my, the Tesla Model 3 did have a big drop (hence the Hyundai IONIQ 5 getting much closer to it). The Chevy Equinox EV, surprisingly, also took a big hit year over year. The Nissan Ariya is saying sayonara to the US market, so it’s unsurprising seeing it down there as well. And the Acura ZDX and Chevy Blazer EV also fell off a cliff.
A lot more models sank than rose year over year, but there are some bright models to keep an eye on.
