Zheng Guoyu, General Manager of China Post, will serve as the Chairman of PSBC

On the evening of January 2, PSBC announced a board resolution, stating that the board has officially reviewed and approved the proposal to elect Zheng Guoyu as the chairman of PSBC.

It is reported that Zheng Guoyu's qualification for the chairman position is subject to approval by the National Financial Regulatory Administration, and his term will last for three years from the date of approval.

This makes him the first newly appointed "top leader" among state-owned banks to announce in 2025.

Who is Zheng Guoyu?

Public information shows that Zheng Guoyu was born in 1967 and is 57 years old this year.

He is currently the director, general manager, and chief compliance officer of China Post Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Post"). On March 31, 2023, he was officially announced as the director, general manager, and deputy secretary of the Party Leadership Group of China Post.

Prior to this, Zheng Guoyu had a long history of working in state-owned banks. His resume shows that he joined Bank of China in 1988 and served as the assistant president and vice president of the Hubei branch, president of the Shanxi branch, president of the Sichuan branch, a member of the executive committee of Bank of China, and vice president of Bank of China.

Since September 2021, Zheng Guoyu has served as the vice president of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and in December of that year, he became an executive director and vice president of ICBC.

Former Chairman of PSBC Resigned in 2022

The former chairman of PSBC was Zhang Jinliang, who resigned in April 2022 for work-related reasons. After that, Zhang Jinliang took up the position of Party Secretary and Chairman of China Construction Bank.

After Zhang Jinliang's departure, PSBC President Liu Jianjun served as the acting chairman of PSBC, chairman of the board's strategic planning committee, and legal representative for a considerable period.

According to the company's articles of association, once Zheng Guoyu's qualification is approved by the National Financial Regulatory Administration, he will also serve as the legal representative of PSBC and chairman and member of the board's strategic planning committee. From the date Zheng Guoyu assumes office, Liu Jianjun will no longer act in these roles and responsibilities.

New Chairman Attracts Attention

As a "new force" among state-owned banks, every move of PSBC is closely watched by the public. At the beginning of the new year, the board's approval of the new chairman candidate is clearly a well-prepared decision.

In the future, it will be interesting to see what new strategic ideas Zheng Guoyu will bring to PSBC after assuming the chairmanship.

Currently, it appears that after this round of personnel changes, PSBC's leadership team will be further strengthened. This will include Chairman Zheng Guoyu, President Liu Jianjun, Supervisor Chen Yuejun, Vice Presidents Yao Hong, Xu Xueming, Du Chunye, and Niu Xinzhang, among others
