The recovery of domestic market production and a significant increase in production in Mexico led to Toyota's global production growth in January for the first time in a year!
On Thursday, Toyota Motor announced that its global production in January increased by 6% year-on-year, reaching 781,729 vehicles, marking the company's first growth in a year.
This growth is mainly attributed to the recovery of production in the Japanese domestic market, which had previously been affected by certification scandals. Although overseas production declined, domestic production in Japan increased by 22%, driving the overall increase in global production.
Despite some negative impact on sales due to snowfall in January, Toyota stated that demand for its vehicles in the North American market remains strong. In January, Toyota's production in North America increased by 3%.
This was primarily due to a surge in production in Mexico, which compensated for declines in production in the United States and Canada. In January, Toyota produced approximately 26,500 vehicles in Mexico, nearly 3.5 times that of the same period last year.
Toyota explained that this significant increase was due to adjustments made to production lines last year, resulting in a notable change in year-on-year data.
In terms of global sales, Toyota's sales in January remained basically flat. Sales in the Japanese domestic market increased by 13%, offsetting a 14% decline in the Chinese market and a slight 1% decrease in the U.S. market.
