On May 15th, ST Power New Energy stated at the 2024 annual performance briefing for the battery industry on the Sci-Tech Innovation Board that with the implementation and growth of end applications such as energy storage, small power, and construction machinery, the cost of sodium batteries is continuously decreasing. According to information from downstream customers, the unit watt-hour cost of the layered oxide route has gradually approached that of lithium iron phosphate, and there is still room for further cost reduction in both materials and processes. It has already shown cost advantages in certain application areas. It is expected that this year, the cost of sodium battery cells will partially overlap with that of lithium iron phosphate cells, and will be basically on par next year, with future cost advantages expected to gradually emerge
