Lei Jun stated that developing self-researched chips again is not only about technology but also about how to stand up again after the disastrous failure of Pinecone. Failure itself is not terrifying; facing one's inner fears is the key. He revealed that when the project was just starting, he suggested keeping the name Pinecone, but everyone strongly disagreed. Finally, it was named Xuanjie, representing a solemn commitment: Xiaomi is serious about chip manufacturing
