
Fed: Unrealized Losses on Last Year's Bond Portfolio Narrow to Under $850 Billion
On April 13, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York indicated that the Fed's massive bond portfolio saw a narrowing of Unrealized Loss last year compared to 2024.
Unrealized Loss on holdings for 2025 amounted to $844.2 billion, while Unrealized Loss for 2024 was $1.06 trillion. This data was disclosed as part of the annual report for the central bank's System Open Market Account (SOMA). The account serves as a reservoir for the Fed's substantial cash, bonds, and other assets.
