DAF begins series production of electric XG models

The XG Electric and XG+ Electric are heavy-duty battery-electric trucks designed for long-haul transport. The two models, which share much of their technology with the XD and XF Electric models, were first unveiled in detail by the Dutch manufacturer in January. Internally, the XG Electric and XG+ Electric are positioned as DAF’s premium models—the technical specifications are identical to the other models, with differences lying solely in the cab design.In other words, all models feature modular drivetrains with Paccar electric motors delivering up to 350 kW, alongside a range of LFP battery packs capable of charging at up to 325 kW. An optional 22 kW AC onboard charger is also available. Depending on motor power and customer requirements, between three and five battery packs can be specified, providing a total capacity of 315 to 525 kWh—enough for up to 500 kilometres of range.However, as the XG and XG+ models are explicitly designed for national and international long-haul transport—unlike the XD Electric, which is intended for regional and supra-regional distribution—customers are likely to opt for larger battery configurations to suit their operations.After all, the luxurious XG cab is not strictly necessary for shorter routes that do not require overnight stays. Specifically, the XG cabs are 33 centimetres longer and taller than the XF cab. DAF states the total volume as 12.5 cubic metres, with a standing height of up to 2.2 metres. The bed offers a continuous width of 80 centimetres, setting a new benchmark for spaciousness in the industry.As is typical for DAF, these are not purely electric models: the XG and XG+ are also available with diesel engines, just like the XB, XD, and XF series.
