Pakistan becomes latest Asian country to introduce checks for deadly Nipah virus
Pakistan has implemented enhanced screening for the Nipah virus at its borders following confirmed cases in India. Other Asian countries, including Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam, have also increased health controls. The Nipah virus, which has a high mortality rate but is not easily transmitted, requires travelers to undergo thermal screening and provide transit history. The World Health Organization classifies Nipah as a priority pathogen, with a case fatality rate of 40% to 75%.
