Trade Gold & Silver With Leverage, Long or Short: SGX's First Gold & Silver DLCs, Explained 🥇🥈

SGXDLC: Long & Short with Leverage — A New Way to Trade

💰 Engage & Win: share your DLC trading experience or your views on gold & silver in the comments of this post or under the DLC topic — quality contributors can win SGD 20 cash. Campaign period: 13 – 21 August 2026. Full details at the end of this post 👇

💡 What Is a DLC?

DLC stands for Daily Leverage Certificate — a leveraged trading product listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX). It's issued and market-made by Société Générale. The name tells you how it works:

  • Daily — the leverage applies to each single day's move, and resets at every close;
  • Leverage — a fixed factor (3x or 5x here), available in both Long and Short versions;
  • Certificate — an exchange-listed security you can trade from a regular cash account.

The one-day rule is simple: the DLC's daily return ≈ the underlying's daily move × the leverage factor.

🥇 Why Choose the Gold & Silver DLCs?

In 2026, SGX welcomed its first ever gold and silver DLCs — four products tracking the world's largest gold and silver ETFs (GLD and SLV, both ~0.98 correlated with spot prices). The 5x gold DLC is currently the highest-leverage gold-linked product in Asia.

Look at the last two years: silver +99%, gold +72% — both far ahead of every major stock index. Then metals peaked on 29 Jan 2026 and turned volatile: silver -18% and gold -7% in the first half of this year. Big swings in both directions are exactly where a two-way leveraged tool fits.

⚠️ Four Things to Know Before You Trade

  1. It's a short-term tool. Leverage resets daily, so returns compound day by day.
  2. There's an airbag mechanism. If the underlying moves sharply against the DLC intraday (-15% for the 5x gold, -20% for the 3x silver), trading pauses and the leverage base resets to reduce exposure after the fall. It reduces wipeout risk, but a violent gap can still take a DLC to zero.
  3. Overnight holding carries small daily costs. Intraday, essentially just spread and commission; holding overnight incurs small daily fees.
  4. SIP qualification is required. DLCs are Specified Investment Products (SIP) — the SIP qualification assessment must be completed before trading.

Risk Disclosure: This post is for educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice or an offer to buy or sell any product. DLCs are high-risk leveraged products suitable only for SIP-qualified investors. Leverage amplifies losses as well as gains; daily compounding erodes value in volatile markets; total loss of capital is possible and the airbag mechanism does not guarantee against it. Investors also bear the credit risk of the issuer. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Please read the listing documents before investing. Rewards are provided by Longbridge and are subject to campaign terms; cash rewards have no bearing on any investment decision.
