My thinking was that holding an ETF would allow me to spread my exposure across multiple REITs rather than relying on the performance of a single company. CFA also distributes income quarterly, which makes it attractive as an income-generating investment.

I decided to buy and hold CFA as a longer-term position, rather than trading it based on short-term price movement.The share price has experienced some fluctuations during my holding period, but I have not treated every price decline as a reason to sell. My objective with CFA is more focused on long-term income, diversification and exposure to the Asian REIT sector.

For an income-focused ETF like CFA, I don't need to react to every short-term price movement. My focus should be on the quality of the underlying assets, distribution sustainability and long-term total return.

This experience also taught me that diversification can make it easier to stay invested during periods of volatility, because I am not relying on the performance of just one REIT or one property market.
