On the afternoon of October 12, a train loaded with 8 40-foot cold chain containers and 1 generator box departed from Pingwang Railway Station in Datong, Shanxi, heading to Nanning South Station nearly 3,000 kilometers away, marking the start of the cold chain transportation containerization model by China Railway Taiyuan Bureau. Li Zhaokun, a business representative at the Taiyuan Operations Department of China Railway Special Cargo Beijing Branch, introduced that the goods transported this time were 232 tons of fresh corn kernels, which required transportation at a temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius. The cold chain containers used this time feature lightweight, large capacity, and rapid cooling characteristics, capable of precisely controlling the temperature between 30 degrees Celsius and minus 30 degrees Celsius, and can be monitored and controlled remotely, fully meeting the transportation requirements for this batch of goods. Ma Jun, deputy director of the Datong Operations Department at the Datong Railway Logistics Center, explained that compared to road cold chain transportation, railway cold chain container transportation has advantages such as all-weather operation, less impact from road conditions, large unit capacity, stable timeliness, and lower comprehensive logistics costs. Compared to traditional railway cold chain vehicles, it also has advantages such as fewer transfers, lower cargo damage, and door-to-door service without opening the container, making it suitable for large-scale, long-distance transportation of cold and fresh goods both domestically and internationally, further enhancing the market competitiveness of fresh agricultural products and helping more specialty agricultural products open up long-distance sales markets
