<div id="readability-page-1">Hong Kong cable car attraction Ngong Ping 360 maintained steady revenue over the past year with a 20 per cent retail and dining surge helping to offset stagnant ticket sales for rides. The operator also said on Tuesday that it would introduce night rides for the first time to headline its 20th anniversary celebrations. Ngong Ping 360 managing director James Tung Pui-chuen pointed to ticket discounts as one of the reasons for the “flat” performance in ride-related sales, but added that the cable car system suffered record-high service suspensions in 2025, at 9,589 minutes, due to extreme weather. The service outages, which soared around 50 per cent year on year, were attributed to an unusually volatile rainy season and a series of autumn storms. “We have no ability to fight the weather,” Tung said. “But having said that, even under such harsh conditions … we still achieved quite a good result.” Despite the climatic challenges of the past year, Tung said that the engineering team maintained a 99.98 per cent reliability rate. While cable car revenue “basically remained flat” – increasing by 1.5 per cent only – non-cable car-related revenue rose 20.6 per cent, which Tung described as “brilliant”. This followed record revenue in 2024 at HK$413 million. The attraction welcomed about 1.47 million visitors in 2025, around 4,850 guests a day on average.  Per-capita spending rose by 4.5 per cent, fuelled by high demand in locally themed souvenirs, IP collaborations such as the classic Hong Kong four-panel comic “My Boy” series, and the introduction of culturally themed dining offerings, including Hong Kong-specific flavoured ice creams like milk tea and roselle. Tung said while the local market faced pressure from residents travelling abroad, long-haul international segments emerged as a key growth driver, accounting for 16 per cent of the total visitor mix. The United States performed particularly well, increasing by 37 per cent, alongside strong growth from short-haul regional markets including Taiwan and the Philippines, which went up by 38 per cent and 20 per cent respectively. While some visitors from the Greater Bay Area showed a preference for non-paid activities, Ngong Ping 360 successfully targeted high-value overnight tourists from more distant cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, Tung said. Mainland visitors made up about 25 per cent of the attraction’s total visitor mix. The Muslim travel segment also performed well, he said, as the attraction earned a “Gold” certification from Singaporean travel platform Halal Trip for its gender-segregated prayer facilities and “cultural sensitivity”. Looking ahead to its 20th anniversary in September, the operator said it was pivoting towards the “night economy” to recapture both local and regional interest. For the first time, Ngong Ping 360 will offer regular night rides on select summer weekends, extending operations until at least 9pm. Ngong Ping Village will be decorated with neon light installations inspired by Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui as well as interactive glowing cable car cabins. The night events would also include concerts featuring popular local artists to draw a younger crowd from the bay area and Southeast Asia, Tung added. To further engage local residents, the operator announced that from March through December, round-trip standard cabin tickets on select days will cost HK$88 for adults, HK$68 for the elderly and HK$48 for children, matching fares from the attraction’s 2006 debut. According to Ngong Ping 360’s website, similar tickets currently sell for at least HK$205 for adults, HK$100 for children and HK$105 for the elderly. To sustain its tourist performance, Tung said the attraction had launched a global “story collection” campaign, offering winners a three-day, two-night Hong Kong travel package to revisit the site where people had previously celebrated milestones such as honeymoons or birthdays.</div>
