Bosch and Tata set up joint venture for electric powertrains in India

Bosch has announced plans to expand its presence in India’s electric mobility market through a collaboration with Tata AutoComp Systems. The two companies intend to establish a joint venture focused on electric powertrain solutions, with operations expected to begin by mid-2026. The new entity will be equally owned by both partners and headquartered in Pune, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.The boards of the Bosch Group, Bosch Limited in India, and Tata AutoComp Systems Limited have already approved the transaction. However, the formation of the new entity still requires approval from antitrust authorities. Both companies are confident that their collaboration will ‘significant impetus for the e-mobility market in India and develop innovative solutions for our customers,’ as stated in an accompanying announcement. Tata AutoComp Systems, the supplier, is part of the Tata Group, the Indian conglomerate that also includes vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors.Bosch has already invested more than six billion euros globally in electric mobility. According to the company, the planned partnership will enable it to introduce its e-axle systems and e-motor solutions to the growing Indian market. However, Bosch is under pressure: just a few months ago, the company intensified its cost-cutting measures, including the elimination of thousands of jobs in Germany.The company is under pressure to increase revenue from its electric mobility components business.
