C114 News, April 18 (Nanshan) - In March of this year, CITIC Securities released a research report stating that in February, China exported 3,779.9 tons of optical fibers, amounting to 790 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 63.6% and 126.8%. If converted to kilometers, China exported approximately 25.2 million core kilometers of optical fibers in February, accounting for about 65% of the country's monthly effective production. If we include the optical fibers in the optical cable exports, the proportion of optical fiber exports would be even higher.
Just this week, CITIC Securities released another research report indicating that currently, about 80% or even more of the domestic optical fiber monthly output has already been exported, significantly reducing the proportion of purchases by operators compared to the past.
The procurement results from Guangdong Telecom and Guangxi Telecom have been released, with the winning bid price for G.652D-24 core optical cables falling between 102.1 yuan and 103.5 yuan per core kilometer, with the optical fiber portion expected to be around 70 yuan per core kilometer. This winning bid price has increased by over 250% compared to the winning bid price (optical fiber) from China Mobile's procurement last year.
According to CRU data, global demand for optical fibers and cables is expected to grow by 4.1% year-on-year in 2025, with demand for data center optical fibers and cables increasing by 75.9%. It is anticipated that global optical fiber demand will rise to 880 million core kilometers by 2027. In terms of pricing, the spot price of China's G.652.D bare optical fiber reached 83.4 yuan per core kilometer in March 2026, with a cumulative increase of over 400% since May 2025.
