
GM Settles for $12.75 Million Over OnStar Data Sales in California
General Motors (GM) has agreed to a $12.75 million settlement in California following allegations of selling OnStar driver data to insurance companies and data brokers. According to NS3.AI, the lawsuit claimed that the data included personal information such as names, phone numbers, home addresses, driving behavior, and GPS locations from hundreds of thousands of drivers in California. As part of the settlement, GM is prohibited from selling data to consumer reporting agencies for five years and is required to delete the data within six months.
