(NEXSTAR) – Target plans to open more than 30 new stores this year, and it inched forward with several new locations welcoming their first customers this month. Even more new Target stores are on the way.
The Minnesota-based retailer aims to have over 300 new stores by 2035, the company previously revealed. Target, which opened its 2,000th location in March, already claims to have a store within 10 miles of most U.S. doorsteps.
Six more stores opened on Sunday. Those Targets can be found in Buckeye and Casa Grande, Arizona; University City, Missouri; Myrtle Grove and Selma, North Carolina; and Jersey City, New Jersey.

Next, Target is focusing on 48 communities across 28 states. Based on the impending store openings Target has confirmed, Texas, Florida, and Utah are in line to see the most growth at 6, 5, and 4 new locations, respectively.

Job listings by Target show several of these locations – Little Elm, Firestone, Brookings, Lake Nona, Seneca, East Mesa, Forney, Frankfort, Springfield, Logan, and Perris – are on track to open this summer. 
Previous reports showed the new stores in East Mesa, Denver, Monument, Covington, Katy, and Brown Deer next year. The location in Chelsea may not open until 2027 or 2028.
In several communities, the new Target store will anchor new or growing developments. That includes Meridian, Winter Haven, Denham Springs, Davison, Tupelo, Fayetteville, Williston, Hermitage, Lexington, Newport, Farr West, Farmington, and Albuquerque.

In others, Target is replacing former retail spaces, like an old Sears in Clearwater, a theater and office retailer in Fort Lauderdale, a shuttered Macy’s in Lima, vacant Kmart stores in Bridgehampton and Round Lake Beach, an old mall in Logan, and a mall under redevelopment in Chubbuck. In Norfolk, Target will take over a former Kroger store.
Some of these cities may also be seeing new locations from Buc-ee’s, Raising Cane’s, and Costco opening in the coming years.

Target has opened six new stores and plans to launch over 30 more this year, aiming for 300 new locations by 2035. The new stores are located in Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Target is focusing on 48 communities across 28 states, with Texas, Florida, and Utah seeing the most growth. Some locations will replace former retail spaces, while others will anchor new developments.
