Chery Jaguar Land Rover has launched an independent electric vehicle brand, Freelander, ceasing production of internal combustion engine vehicles. The last fossil-fuel vehicle, a Range Rover Evoque, was produced on March 31. The company has invested CNY3 billion to upgrade its production line in Changshu, where the Freelander models will be manufactured. The first model, Concept97, is set to enter the market in the second half of next year, with plans for 100 retail outlets globally by year-end and six new models over the next five years. Chery has launched its QQ3 EV, securing 56,879 orders within two hours of its debut. Priced at 58,900 yuan ($8,530), it undercuts Leapmotor's A10, which was released a week earlier. The QQ3 EV features a rear-mounted motor with options for 29.48 kWh and 41.28 kWh batteries, offering ranges of 310 km and 420 km, respectively. It includes a 15.6-inch central control screen and supports fast charging. Chery's competitive pricing strategy poses a significant challenge to Leapmotor in the budget EV market.
