Serbia plans to stop using coal, fuel oil in district heating by 2040
Serbia plans to phase out coal and fuel oil in district heating by 2040, replacing them with renewable sources like solar, biomass, and geothermal energy. The strategy aims to increase renewable energy's share in heat production from 2.4% to 5.5% by 2028. Natural gas will remain dominant but its share will decrease. The decarbonization plan, developed with the EBRD, seeks to reduce air pollution and improve heating efficiency.
