New regulatory measures for mercury-added products will take effect on the 31st of this month
The government announced that the newly revised "Mercury Control Regulations" will take effect on the 31st of this month, adding eight new regulated mercury-containing products, including compact fluorescent lamps and tire balancers. After the regulations take effect, the manufacture, import, export, and supply of related products will be prohibited, with violators facing fines of up to HKD 50,000 and imprisonment for up to one year. The government has set a grace period for supply until January 2029
