DLC: Long & Short with Leverage — A New Way to Trade

When I started, I thought DLC = just leveraged stocks. It's not.

DLCs from SocGen on SGX are a daily product. 3x, 5x, 7x Long/Short on HSI, S&P, NASDAQ, SG stocks. It resets every day. That one detail changes everything.

My experience in 3 lessons:

1. Leverage is a tool, not a lottery ticket.

A 5x Long doesn't mean you make 5x if HSI goes up 10% over a week. Because of daily compounding, holding for multiple days can drift hard against you, especially in choppy markets. I learned to treat DLCs as intraday to 2-3 day tactical trades, not investments.

2. The Airbag is NOT a safety net.

The Airbag Mechanism slows losses when the underlying moves sharply against you (e.g. 20%+ for a 5x). But it doesn't guarantee you won't lose everything. I saw a 5x Short SIA DLC go to zero when the airbag was triggered. If it triggers, your DLC can be suspended and delisted the next day. Respect it.

3. Trend + Discipline > Prediction

My best trades were not when I tried to catch reversals. They were when I rode a clear trend - e.g. 3x Short HSI during downtrend, small size, strict cut loss. My worst trades were overnight holds hoping for a gap up. The overnight decay is real.

If you're curious:

• Start on dlc.socgen.com simulator first • Never risk more than 1-2% of capital per trade • Have an exit plan BEFORE you enter

DLCs are powerful for hedging and short-term views, but they are high-risk and not for everyone. You can lose your full investment.

Not financial advice. Just sharing my journey.
