Context: The Bank of Japan’s rate hike could be a mixed development for DHLU. A stronger yen may support the Singapore-dollar value of its Japan-based income, but higher Japanese borrowing costs could increase finance expenses and pressure distributions. With DHLU’s first-half DPU already down 18.8% year-on-year to 1.82 cents, the net impact will depend on its debt structure, hedging and refinancing schedule.
My trade: The position is being retained, but additional capital is reserved until recurring earnings and financing costs show clearer improvement.
Takeaway: Next time, assess both currency benefits and interest-rate risks before assuming a Bank of Japan hike is positive for DHLU.
