$Western Digital(WDC.US)
Context:
WDC had a rough session, falling close to 7% after Toshiba’s HDD expansion plans brought supply concerns back into the market.
I understand why the market reacted. If more capacity eventually comes online, it could put pressure on pricing and margins. But for me, the key word is eventually.
The expansion takes time, and so far the bigger question is whether industry pricing actually starts to weaken or whether the market is simply pricing in that risk ahead of time.
My Trade:
I’m still holding WDC. A sharp red day definitely gets my attention, but I don’t want to treat every supply headline as if the business has already changed.
What matters more to me is whether AI and cloud storage demand remain strong, whether HDD pricing stays firm, and whether competitors begin adding capacity aggressively.
If those things start to change together, that would matter much more to me than one bad trading session.
Takeaway:
This position is reminding me that the market often moves before the evidence is clear.
Sometimes that is useful warning. Sometimes it is just fear being priced in early.
My job is not to ignore the risk, but to figure out whether the risk is becoming real.
