    $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US)

The market keeps focusing on short term headlines, but I see TSMC quietly strengthening its global manufacturing moat through its latest sensor JV with Sony in Japan.

What matters to me is TSMC’s unmatched process execution and advanced packaging capabilities. These are difficult for competitors to replicate. By securing key bottlenecks in AI computing and image sensors, TSMC continues to strengthen its position across the tech ecosystem.

I’d rather own great compounders than trade short term noise. When a company controls critical technology, I’m happy to let the compounding work in the background.

TSMC’s board passed a new capital budget of US$29.443 billion on Tuesday, putting total approved budgets for this year at $60.726 billion, compared to its 2026 capex forecast of $64B to $65B, media report, noting the fresh Sony JV announcement lead some to speculate whether 2026 capex might not be raised again. $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) $Sony(SONY.US) #semiconductors

Sony’s talks with TSMC over joint venture development of image sensor production lines at Sony's new fab in Koshi City, Japan (Kumamoto) “are progressing smoothly with a view to signing definitive agreements,” Sony said, adding it has already set aside ¥10 billion yen for the JV, in which it will be the majority shareholder. Sony is partnering with TSMC for its “world class semiconductor process technology” to boost future image sensors not just in mobile, but also physical AI (autos, robotics). $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) $Sony(SONY.US) #semiconductors

TSMC’s operation in Kumamoto, Japan is recovering and will need some time to recalibrate equipment after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake, tripping safety systems and halting production, media report. TSMC said the fab structure, water supply, power and safety systems are all normal, and detailed inspections continue. Construction of the 2nd fab has resumed.

Japan’s Sony Semiconductor, Renesas and Tokyo Electron also halted production and are undertaking safety inspections.

(Note: TSMC is no stranger to earthquakes. The Kumamoto fab could be back in full production in a week. The amount of time it takes will tell us a lot about the damage.) $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) $Sony(SONY.US) $RNECY $Tokyo Electron(TOELY.US) #Japan #Kumamoto #semiconductors

$Sony Group Corporation(6758.JP) I think Sony has held steady at this level. I sold a batch of puts at 3378, expiring at the end of the month, and I'll see if they get exercised. If they are, I'll gladly accept it.

Just dropping these 3 slides from Agility Robotics ( $Churchill Capital XI(CCXI.US) ) presentations.

For the US robotic program doomposters:

    1. “75% of parts” - sourced from the USA

    2. Just eyeballing the graph, looks like <$30k BOM mass production.

People were just looking at the ~$145K cost.

    3. 10,000 RoboFab capacity, and they build in Salem/Pittsburgh/Fremont (USA).

So looks like majority US supply chains with targets of <$30K mass production

It does help they’re backed by $Amazon(AMZN.US) / SoftBank / Foxconn / $NVIDIA(NVDA.US) as investors to get this done.

Just personal thoughts as a shareholder in $Churchill Capital XI(CCXI.US) (NFA):

My personal biggest fear were US humanoid leaders like $Tesla(TSLA.US) were just building out their entire supply chains in China.

So US robotics could just be export controlled/halted down the road.

eg. South China Morning Post: ‘Optimus chain’: Chinese suppliers form the backbone of Tesla’s humanoid robot initiative and engaged with hundreds of Chinese component suppliers.

And that Western companies are not able to lower costs to a competitive level + are forced to use Chinese components.

I'm still not sure how they're going to do it but if Agility can achieve those mass production targets with that BOM cost in the USA/West.

It would be a great validation for Made in America US robotics programs.

IMO the top 5 US humanoid programs right now in terms of commercialization potential are:

    1. Tesla Optimus

    2. Figure

    3. Agility Robotics

    4. Boston Dynamics (yeah KR parent)

    5. Apptronik

Tesla is a $1T+ company. Figure is private and valued around ~$39B. Owning Boston Dynamics through Hyundai is a bit messy.

And I’d prefer not to invest in adversarial programs just as a personal preference.

So I’ve been personally excited for Agility to be listed as early as September.

Recommend buying a little Sony, the price should have built a relatively good medium-term reversal structure. I currently hold a little RCN, considering if it can return to around 3400, I'll open a position in some shares; $Sony Group Corporation(6758.JP)
