
The Trump administration is working on new semiconductor export rules to better limit access to AI chips, and do away with the tiered system created under the previous administration, Reuters reports, citing unnamed sources, and adding removing the tier system could enable AI chips to be used as a negotiating tool in trade talks. Current rules separate nations into tiers, with the 1st tier getting all the chips they want. It includes 17 nations and Taiwan.
