
Macronix, the memory chip maker, plans to spend NT$22 billion (US$700M) on capex this year to expand MLC NAND Flash memory chip capacity to 30,000 wafers per month from 20,000 by year-end amid a severe global shortage, media report, noting it’s a strategic shift for the company, which mainly produces NOR Flash and other types of memory chips. Macronix will delay the launch of its 3D NOR Flash by 2-years to prioritize NAND. Macronix’s 2025 capex was NT$1.8 billion.
