$GLD SG(GSD.SG)

Post 2 Episode 23

Context: One reason I keep gold in the portfolio is that it gives me something very different from my growth holdings. When equities become volatile, I don’t want every position reacting to the same narrative at the same time.

My trade: I see my Singapore-listed gold position as a form of portfolio optionality. If risk assets come under pressure while gold remains resilient, it gives me a relatively defensive asset that I can simply hold — or potentially rebalance from later when better opportunities appear elsewhere.

Takeaway: A hedge does not always need to make money at exactly the moment stocks fall. Sometimes its real value is giving you the confidence, liquidity and patience not to make a bad decision when markets become uncomfortable. That, to me, is one of gold’s most underrated roles.

Typical market over reaction to the Fed hikes before realising its all priced in. Institutions wait for retail to sell the news and promptly bought up the sale.

It looks like the Fed has decided to listen to the market and give them what they want. The Fed is not ‘independent’ after all! If they don’t listen to the president, they listen to the market.

$APAC Realty(CLN.SG)

Context: What interests me about APAC Realty is that it offers exposure to Singapore’s property market through transactions rather than property ownership. Through ERA, the business participates across new launches, resale, leasing and other property services, so its earnings are closely tied to market activity and transaction volumes. In FY2025, brokerage contributed more than 90% of gross profit, while the group handled about S$33.3 billion of brokerage transaction value.

My trade: I see APAC Realty as a different kind of Singapore exposure — less about collecting rent or betting directly on property prices, and more about the flow of transactions through the market. That gives me a way to participate when buying, selling and leasing activity improves, while keeping the business model relatively asset-light.

Takeaway: Sometimes you don’t need to own the asset to benefit from the activity around it. In property, the transaction platform can be just as interesting as the property itself.

Everyone is talking about the Fed’s decision and how they will certainly raise rates. Haha….If I am Warsh I will show who’s the boss and hold or best cut rates. Then hand over to Bessent to wait for the bond vigilantes to move and then buy, buy, buy short squeeze them all, sell Fort Knox’s gold as gold prices spike, throw the kitchen sink at the market!

Imagine the FUD shortlist’s reaction as they scramble to cover.

Mwahahahahaha! 😂

Why only now conveniently would you want to ‘slow down’ AI when you are about to launch your IPO? Is it to benefit your company so that others cannot catch up as well as look ‘morally upright’ so that others cannot compete when regulations are placed (if they do) henceforth keeping your company ahead? Only Anthropic can answer this….

And if you believe so, then just do it!

$NVIDIA(NVDA.US)

Post 5 Episode 22

Context: What makes NVIDIA particularly interesting to me is that its advantage extends beyond the GPU itself. CUDA, networking, systems, software libraries and developer adoption have turned NVIDIA into something closer to an AI computing platform than just a semiconductor company.

My trade: I view NVIDIA as exposure to the underlying ecosystem on which much of modern AI is being built. Competitors can produce capable chips, but replacing an established software and developer ecosystem is easier said than done. That gives the thesis a layer of durability beyond any single generation of hardware.

However, this is still just a placeholder in my portfolio as I believe it is valued quite richly.

Takeaway: In technology, the strongest moat is sometimes not the product — it is the ecosystem surrounding it. The chip may start the relationship, but the platform can be what keeps customers there.

$Broadcom(AVGO.US)

Post 4 Episode 22

Context: One reason Broadcom interests me is that the next phase of AI may not be dominated entirely by off-the-shelf GPUs. Large hyperscalers increasingly want custom accelerators designed around their own workloads, power budgets and economics — and Broadcom sits in a strong position to help enable that transition.

My trade: I see AVGO as a way to participate in AI compute without having to predict which individual custom chip ultimately wins. Its role in designing and connecting these systems gives me exposure to the broader trend toward specialised silicon while complementing my more direct accelerator holdings.

Takeaway: Sometimes the better investment isn’t betting on one winning chip. It is owning the company that can benefit as multiple customers build their own.

$AMD(AMD.US)

Post 3 Episode 22

Context: What interests me about AMD is that the AI opportunity does not require it to replace NVIDIA. Even a meaningful share of a rapidly expanding accelerator and data-centre market could translate into substantial growth, especially with AMD combining GPUs, CPUs and increasingly rack-scale systems.

My trade: I treated AMD as a strategic challenger position rather than a momentum bet. The thesis is based on improving execution, broader hyperscaler adoption and the possibility that customers increasingly want a credible second source for AI compute. However, I believe better prices for AMD is around the corner so this is just a small position.

Takeaway: An investment thesis does not always need a company to become number one. Sometimes the opportunity lies in identifying the strongest alternative in a market that is growing fast enough to support more than one major winner.

$Apple(AAPL.US)

Post 2 of Episode 22

In line with the posting requirements, the following is my take.

Context: Apple remains one of the strongest consumer technology franchises, supported by its ecosystem, services business and exceptional customer loyalty. My main consideration wasn’t whether Apple is a good company, but whether the valuation offered enough upside relative to other opportunities available.

My trade: I kept my Apple exposure measured rather than chasing the stock during periods of strong momentum. I prefer adding when expectations cool or when the market gives me a better entry, instead of paying almost any price simply because the business is high quality.

Takeaway: A great business and a great investment are not always the same thing at every price. Patience on valuation can be just as important as identifying quality in the first place.
