My take: The Search results page still feels like a high school science project gone amok. It sounds like Google recognizes that, and over the next couple of years wants to slowly make it simpler. The latest internal news on Twitter (uncertain authenticity) shows the internal schedule is to release publicly on the 22nd of this month, with the previous Oct 9-10 being a company-wide internal test (dogfood) before the public release. Additionally, more and more users have encountered 2.5/3 AB tests when using Google Gemini and AI Studio these past two days. Considering all this, there's reason to believe it's coming soon.
