Lean hog futures ended the week mixed, with prices fluctuating between a decline of 75 cents and an increase of 67 cents. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $93.77, up $3.07 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index fell by 17 cents to $91.02. The USDA's pork carcass cutout value rose by $1.96 to $97.56 per cwt, while hog slaughter for the week was estimated at 2.446 million head, an increase from the previous week and last year.

Hogs Post Mixed Trade on Friday

Live cattle futures are experiencing losses of $1.55 to $2.70 at midday, recovering from early lows. Cash trade has recorded $256 sales this week, with feeder cattle futures down $4.40 to $4.80. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 14 cents to $375.19. Weekly beef export sales were 10,005 MT, the second lowest this year, while shipments reached a six-week high at 14,207 MT. Wholesale boxed beef prices fell, with Choice boxes down $2.04 to $387.58. USDA estimated cattle slaughter at 108,000 head, totaling 313,000 for the week, down from last week and last year.

The USDA reported a pork carcass cutout value decrease of $1.39 to $95.97 per cwt. Estimated hog slaughter for Tuesday was 488,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 967,000, up from the previous week.

Monthly Cold Storage data indicated a 1.95% decrease in beef stocks from February. Managed money reduced their net long positions in live cattle and feeder cattle futures. Wholesale Boxed Beef prices saw an increase, with Choice boxes up $1.42 to $388.42. USDA estimated cattle slaughter at 529,000 head for the week, up from last week but down from last year.
