    $ServiceNow(NOW.US)

Context: ServiceNow and other software names had previously come under pressure this year on fears that agentic AI would disrupt the traditional software business model — a dynamic dubbed the “SaaS-pocalypse” — as investors worried AI agents could cannibalize seat-based software spending. Those same AI safety concerns are now working in reverse for software stocks: as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodeiand OpenAI CEO Sam Altman call for a more cautious, deliberate pace of AI capability advancement, investors appear to be reading that as reduced near-term disruption risk to established enterprise software platforms like ServiceNow.

My Trade: Bought the dips and has been holding on to ServiceNow. Its earnings have been impressive with the adoption of AI to help boost its services ironically.

Takeaway: With AI leaders calling for a slower AI development, regardless whether this is a hoax or not, the market seemed to shift back to the traditional software stocks for safer haven. Moreover, the high probability of rate hike this month has led to many investors selling high beta hardware stocks as well. @Captain's Treasure

GOOD MORNING & WELCOME TO FOMC DECISION WEEK.

In addition to a potential rate hike, the fears over the weekend caused by Dario’s essay have led to a long software/short semis premarket.

Nvidia, Marvell, Sandisk, AMD, Nebius, Micron, CoreWeave, Intel are all red from 3-7%.

Palantir, Atlassian, Crowdstrike, Service Now, Adobe, Intuit are all green from 2-5%.

Personally, I think the market is having a knee jerk reaction to the headlines over the weekend.

In the past 24 hours, Anthropic themselves have signed multiple new compute deals (one with Rumble for $14B yesterday) and are preparing for their IPO by officially picking the Nasdaq as their exchange. In the face of all the “pace the frontier” slowdown news, the company creating that news is not slowing down their compute obligations.

So why is the market reacting like this? Well, the entire AI trade is rooted in capex. Until there is more clarity on what it means to slow down model training and recursive learning, the market is assuming that means there is a closer end to the growth in capex than expected which obviously is bad for the AI names. Great for software as more money gets allocated to the application layer and great for hyperscalers since they can generate more FCF which is why those names are green premarket.

I think this fear could flip within days if not within hours, but if you match this fear with a rate hike that might be priced in but still is not good for high-beta growth (which is what the AI trade is composed of) then you start to see how the market can make sense of taking these names down further.

Jensen speaks at the All-In Summit today, he’s likely either going to completely reject Sam/Dario’s fear-inducing message by giving a more optimistic approach to think about AI or agree with it and still make the claim that compute obligations, even if not needed to train new models as fast as possible, are not slowing down.

Going to be a big week.

Servicenow has been proving me right as sentiment has allowed saas to come back into the spotlight again which. It’s cybersecurity business has been growing with AI models start to escape sandboxes, and there is a growing demand for cybersecurity and NOW’s services. I believe it’s been going up in a really nice and healthy uptrend, which I believe will continue to the 160s range at least.

Context: NOW has had a strong recovery this year, rising from around US$83 to above US$150. My trades are currently up about 44%.

My trade: I built the position during the weakness, buying at US$108.50 and US$89.50. I’m still holding and haven’t taken profits despite the strong recovery.

Takeaway: The next question is whether strong AI adoption can translate into sustained growth without the valuation becoming too stretched. I’m happy to hold for now but will also keep an eye on growth, margins and customer demand.

$ServiceNow(NOW.US) Fundamental demand for Software-as-a-Service has not seen the steep decline the market had warned about in the first six months of the year, mainly because SaaS companies have embraced artificial intelligence to undergo changes. "AI transformation is a matter of life and death for us," the head of a leading Chinese SaaS provider told Yicai recently. "But it feels like the era belonging to our industry has returned." As AI agents started demonstrating capabilities to directly invoke software, read data, and perform tasks at the beginning of the year, the capital market has voiced concerns that the traditional SaaS business model would be disrupted. But core software companies, including Germany's SAP and the US's ServiceNow, reported earnings growth in the second quarter, with AI having a real contribution to contracts and revenue. This was why I entered a position in ServiceNow when the software companies were all struggling, albeit not at the exact bottom. Yet, I'm still holding on as I believe that ServiceNow can continue to embrace the rapid changes and grow demand. @Captain's Treasure
