SpaceX OptionInternal news from Samsung Foundry: The Samsung version of Tesla's $Tesla(TSLA.US) AI5 chip has completed tape-out.
⠀
This news was publicly shared by James Kim, Chief Engineer at Samsung Foundry, and is seen as a significant milestone.
⠀
It is reported that the chip will adopt a 2-nanometer process and will be produced at Samsung's factory located in Taylor, Texas.
⠀
Tape-out completion typically marks the finalization of the chip design, after which it enters the formal production process at the foundry.
⠀
It is important to note that this version is exclusive to Samsung's foundry system and is not the same design as the AI5 TSMC tape-out version disclosed by Tesla in April this year.
⠀
Tesla is currently pursuing a dual-sourcing strategy with both Samsung and TSMC to support the future mass production capacity demands of the AI5 chip.
⠀
Musk previously indicated that the AI5 has the potential to become one of the highest-volume AI chips in history.
⠀
According to current plans, the mass production timeline is still set for 2027.
